The Works involve the Construction of Roads, Service Infrastructure and Marine defences along approximately 3.3km of Al Muntazah Street between the roundabouts at Al Muntazah Square and the Coral Beach Resort near the Sharjah / Ajman border. The existing corridor, which incorporates a dual two-lane carriageway, will be widened to include a dual three-lane carriageway with parallel parking on the land side and a service road with extensive angled parking on the beachside. The footways on both sides will be wider and contain landscaping and street furniture. In addition a segregated Cycle Track and Jogging Track (with "rubberized" surfacing) will be provided on the beachside. A signalized intersection and signalized pedestrian crossings are also to be provided to improve both traffic and pedestrian movements and safety in the area.
Extensive changes and improvement to the existing utility service Infrastructure are required to accommodate the new corridor and provide for the future development of the adjacent plots. This include new Street Lighting, Storm Water Drainage, Foul Drainage and Treated Sewage effluent network throughout the extent of the scheme.
To facilitate the wider corridor marine reclamation works are required along sections of the route. These will protect the highway and Service Infrastructure from nearshore wave action with consideration for damage and overtopping. These works comprises of the following elements:
- Demolition of existing rock armour T-head groynes and rock revetment for reuse in the new structure.
- Removal and stockpiling of beach quality sand.
- Seawards land reclamation.
- Construction of rock armour revetment and associated rear concrete wall.
- Extending existing outfall through the rock armour revetment.
